Fotofestiwal 2013 - Nadav Kander - Bodies. 6 women, 1 man

Nadav Kander był z pewnością jednym z największych magnesów tegorocznego Fotofestiwalu. Pozyskanie jego prac do konkursu Grand Prix należy interpretować jako spore osiągnięcie kierownictwa imprezy. Zdjęcia z cyklu "Ciała" oglądało się jednak niespecjalnie. Wynikało to po pierwsze z dramatycznie złego ich oprawienia, po drugie z takiego wyeksponowania, że bardzo trudno było je obejrzeć bez potężnych blików, pochodzących od okien znajdujących się naprzeciw. Trudno było zatem cieszyć oko wyrafinowaną przestrzenią, szczegółem i tonalnością zawartymi w pracach. Trzeci dyskomfort polegał na tym, że pokazano fotografie Kandera w kontekście pozostałych wystaw Grand Prix, noszących wyraźne piętno socjologiczno-etnograficzne. Stanowiły zatem opowieść z zupełnie innej bajki - gdyby pokazać je w wydzielonej przestrzeni i w sposób bardziej dopracowany, byłyby niewątpliwym hitem...


Nadav Kander was certainly one of the biggest magnets of Fotofestiwal this year. To win his works for the Grand Prix contest can be viewed  as quite an achievement of the management. The photographs from the series "Bodies" were, however, really hard to view. Firstly, the mounting and framing were dramatically bad, secondly they were displayed in such way that it was very impossible to see them without strong reflections, coming from the windows on the opposite side. It was difficult, therefore, to enjoy the sophisticated space, detail and tonality contained in the works. The third discomfort lay in the fact that Kander photographs were shown in the context of other Grand Prix exhibitions, all of them bearing a distinct sociological and/or ethnographic mark. Kander's works constituted thus a tale from a completely different story - if they had been shown in a dedicated space and in a more refined manner, they would undoubtedly have been a hit...
